June's a little sick of normal. Ever since she set out on the whole fake emo thing after the "Noah liking alt girls" rumour went around, she's not only fallen in love with the emo subculture, but also realized that maybe her whole life she's never allowed herself to actually explore her desires and impulses and curiosities, content to just follow what was expected of her... Going along with her parents, and her friends, keeping out of trouble and making everyone happy. Maybe, no not maybe — certainly, it's time for her to figure out what she really wants.

Thus begun their rebellious streak in their very last year of high school. June kisses their girlfriend Ellie in public, and sneaks out with their friends to watch local punk shows, and wears what they want even if it's unorthodox or "not very ladylike", and stays up late reading fanfiction underneath the covers, and plays drums when their parents complain about the noise, and laughs louder than they've ever allowed themself to laugh before. They and their best friend Sadie are thinking of going out of province for uni and maybe starting a band.

June doesn't know how she got here. Her whole life, she's been a good kid, a good student, a good daughter, never the most remarkable but definitely Good. But then... Noah, June's crush and the most popular boy at school, came out as gay and dating some scene boy, and before she knew it, June got herself wrapped up in this insane popularity scheme, fakedating the school's it-girl Ellie Chartier and pretending to be emo. Yeah, she doesn't really understand either.

What she does know is that she might be really enjoying it. Enjoying it more than she's ever enjoyed anything in her life. The implications scare her too much to think about.
